Video Compression using Integer DCT and Block Based Difference Coding

Conventional DCT maps integers to floating point numbers, the computation cost and the power consumption can not be neglected, especially the cost of floating point multiplication. Integer DCT is low-complexity implementation of DCT. It requires only shifts and adds. It requires small silicon area. Integer arithmetic is quicker, easier to code and quantize. Hence this will result in speeding up the compression and consumes less power. As in block based difference coding only those blocks that change significantly from its counterpart in the previous frame are updated ,the compression ratio achieved will be more. In our work we are trying to evaluate the performance of block based difference coding using Integer DCT by proposing compression and decompression algorithm. Actual analysis is done to show the proposed scheme is efficient and achieve near real time compression.
